Điện Biên explores restoration of Trần Temple at A1 Hill Historical Site

ĐBP – The Điện Biên Provincial People's Committee held a workshop on Sunday to research and propose the restoration of the Trần Temple at the A1 Hill historical site in Điện Biên Phủ City.

Điện Biên Provincial Party Secretary Trần Quốc Cường speaks at the conference.

Trần Quốc Cường, member of the Central Party Committee and Provincial Party Secretary; Mùa A Sơn, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; along with former leaders of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and representatives from various departments, attended the workshop.

In his speech, Cường shared that Điện Biên Province has collaborated with experts, scientists, universities, and research organisations in the fields of culture, history, museums, architecture, and construction. The province has also engaged with foreign diplomatic agencies in Việt Nnam, such as the French Embassy in Hà Nội, to gather information and materials related to the Trần Temple, which was located at A1 Hill in Điện Biên Phủ City before being destroyed by the French army.

The province has already collected some valuable historical and cultural documents and images related to the temple. At the workshop, Cường expressed his hope that objective and scientific assessments on the history, architecture, and management of the site, along with verified evidence, would provide a basis for restoring the temple at A1 Hill and contribute to enhancing the province’s cultural heritage.

Delegates attend the workshop at Conference Hall 2A of the Điện Biên Provincial People's Committee.

During the workshop, delegates were briefed on the preservation and restoration efforts for the Điện Biên Phủ Battlefield National Special Relic and the A1 Hill site, as well as the historical significance of other local sites such as Thẩm Púa Cave, Thẩm Khương Cave, the Hoàng Công Chất Temple, and King Lê Temple. They also reviewed reports and materials gathered regarding the Trần Temple, including six photographs and related historical details collected by the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Delegate Trần Thị Lan from the History Department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities presents at the workshop.

Experts and researchers noted that the temple was likely not located at the top of A1 Hill but rather to the right of the current path leading up to the site. They agreed that restoring the temple in Điện Biên aligns with the modern cultural development trend.

Suggestions were also made regarding the architectural model and worship practices for the temple.

However, some delegates emphasised the need to gather more historical evidence about the temple’s existence and precise location. Others raised the question of whether the temple should be restored at the A1 Hill site or at a more suitable location.

At the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vừ A Bằng acknowledged and welcomed the contributions of the experts, scientists, and former provincial leaders.

He expressed the desire for continued input from researchers and experts, particularly regarding scientific evidence and historical documentation, to support the next steps in the restoration process.
